  1. Things are very different for Cabin Crew depending on where they are based. UK based crew are treated a lot better and paid a lot more compared to crew working for American carriers. After tax, you can expect to take home between £1400-£2000 per month with a UK based airline and this would improve with promotion / comission etc. Longhaul airlines offer the best wages and conditions and a lot of teachers make the move to cabin crew! Good luck with your decision!

  2. What country do you reside in? The wages in the US are lower than in Europe, for instance. In the US, don't expect to make more than $20k for the first year, before taxes, and the wages don't go up very fast from there. See this chart:

Also, with the current hiring situation being questionable due to fuel prices (with several carriers either out of business or on the verge of doing so) , you might want to rethink a career change. When layoffs come, as they already have for many airlines, the junior people are the first to go.  I'm a pilot and almost 25% of my 23 year career has been spent on furlough.

Airline flying can be fun but's not always the great life everyone thinks it is.

  3. Go try it for a year (if you can make it that long) so you get it out of your system.  colganair.com will suck you right up and they pay slightly more than most others.  I think they start you out at $17.xx an hour (75 hour guarantee per month) which is more than most + 1.35 or so per-diem if you do overnights.  They've got something like 30 bases so you won't have a problem finding a place you'll like.  Don't expect a lot of money and have a plan on getting out before you even step foot in an interview - turnover rate was about 6 months for cabin crew.
