How much daily self-studying is recommended in the 1st year of college?

i am entering my 1st year in electronics n comm. engineering. i want a good GPA, like between 4 to 5, at the end of the year. so much effort should i put in...or rather how much did you(or are you) putting in?

it depends upon your studying habits. for me a hour is enough to self-study. try also group studying it really helps a lot.

Each person is different. Depends if you grasp the information. Do you test well ect. I was told the for every credit of class time and how many days a week the class meets should be your guide to start with. ie A 4 hour class that meets twice a week should get 8 hours of studying  3 hour three times a week should get 9 and so on. I found sometimes I have to do that sometimes not. It just depends of the course matter and whether or not I get it. Some english classes take more because some people can not write good papers me well I like to write so I spent far less time on that class studying and more on say psychology. Start by following the above then as you find your niche adjust it accordingly.

Really it is for you to decide. Everyone is different and some people find they can remember things after just half hour of studying, others after 2 hours. Only you know your learning pattern, so you decide!

Here in England it may be slightly different, but at Uni - you can just about get away with doing absolutely no work what so ever to get you through the first year - from my own experiance there was very little material that was new to learn, so i'd say 95% of infomation I was already well studied in.

The 2nd year and beyond is alot more work though, so get use to it now!

It all does depend on the person, but if you want to know what's the average studying time for a college student.... I wouldn't be surprise if it was about a hour ( although it could be more or less)
