How much damage can a 430 fps c02 powered pistol using .177 steel pellets do on humans? NO UNLAWFUL INTENT!!!

I only want to know because I would like to know the capabilities of this gun and if it might be a viable method of defending oneself in an occurance something of the likeness to a domestic assault.

well i was shot with one once and the guy that shot me was sent to the hospital all that will happen is who ever gets shot with one it will make someone very mad. but there has been the lucky shots that has killed someone.

It will leave a welt. Nothing more. Over 700 FPS it may bury itself under the skin. Depending on clothing Nothing you can't ( Or I have not)  cut out with a pocket knife.

Buy a gun if you are worried about being assaulted.

It will go in the skin, provided heavy clothing is not available, but basically the damage would be minor, provided your not aiming for the face (eyes).  Let me put it this way, as a defensive weapon it would be a poor choice.  The projectile is very small, and the speed it travels is to small to cause deep penetration, a defensive choice of weapon needs to penetrate more than 6 inches of the body.  You would be better off throwing bricks at them, or flaming molotov cocktails.

Well, based on the caliber and the previous comments, I can say this: It's not going to kill a human, probably won't even be able to knock him down. It may be able to cause enough pain and/or damage at close range to make a person want to run away or at least take cover.

Don't rely on it to stop someone who's really determined or hopped-up on adrenaline, but it should be a decent deterrent.

A pellet gun is not a proper self defense weapon.  You are only going to get yourself hurt.  I would suggest taking a course from the NRA or similar organization.  The fact that you asked this question indicates that you may be unfamiliar with weapons.  After you learn the basics of handling firearms, you need to ask yourself if you are really prepared to use one in defense of your life.  Not a small, or easy, choice to make.  Good luck and make sure what you decide is legal where you live.

G'Day mate 430 fps is very slow and air rifle is faster than that 177cal air rifle is about 750 fps some also go to 1100 fps or more.co2 is c**p.cheers mate

I've got a 430fps 22cal co2 and it killed a rat at about 15 feet.

On a human? If you shot a human, you'd probably tick them off enough to make them shoot you with a real firearm.

One way to check penetration is to shoot a single round into a new bar of soap. If it passes completely through the soap, it'll penetrate human skin and do a tiny bit of damage... If it passes completely through two bars of soap, it will hurt them good.

But the general rule with airguns is, don't use them for hunting, they're usually not powerful enough to get a clean kill on anything bigger than a coon, unless it's a speciality high powered airgun.
