Around how much did an average horse cost in the late 1800s? And what was considered to be an ample amount of money back then?

  2. aristocrats in the late 18th century would pay thousands for a good horse, at a time when their servants would be lucky to earn a pound a month.

    Some people made $1000+ a year and that was seen as a lot of money.

  5. Horses was a rich man animal. It required a lot of care as they do now.  I Would say that in the late 1800's the average horse would cost you about 10 to 50 dollars, a well bread horse would cost about a 100 to 1000 dollars if he came from good blood line more if he had papers to trace his blood line.  An ample amount of money back then 20 a month to 50 a month. You must remember that you worked long and hard sun  up to sun down and in most cases had to bring your own food and tools or pay a small fee to use the  tools for work.

  6. A horse was worth 3 chickens, 2 pigs, and a dairy cow.
