How much did a horse cost during the Oklahoma Land Rush? I need this answer ASAP!

  1. It depends on where the horse was needed/wanted and how well it was trained, but generally a common saddle-broken horse was worth $5-25 dollars, without saddle or bridle. An older animal would be worth less as its working life was mostly gone.  A young racing horse which had potential to earn a lot of money for its owners could be worth several hundred to several thousand dollars.    The Kentucky Derby winner in 1896 (Ben Brush) had been purchased as a colt for $1200.

    If horses were in short supply and someone had a desperate need, the price would be more, of course.

    Remember, this was in the days before modern inflation, the dollar was on the gold standard, and a man would be paid about a dollar for a hard day's labor.

    Horses were considered transportation and not the valuable pets they mostly are today.
