Is there a website I can go to that will tell me how much my neighbor bought their house for? I can't ask them in person, but it's got to be in public records somewhere...

  1. It may or may not be public information depending upon which state you live in.  In Texas for example, it's not public information.

If the house was listed by a Realtor, then the information will be in the local MLS and a Realtor could get it for you.

Can't remember exactly, but I think that there are five or six states where it's not public information.  County records say the house was transferred from Mr Smith to Mr Jones for "ten dollars and other consideration".

Leins are public, so anybody can find out how much loan you have and what kind it is,  If it's VA or FHA, then you can pretty much figure out the selling price.  If it's conventional, it depends upon how much down payment they put.

  2. Most counties have websites that you can get that info from.

If it sold within the last 1-2 months though it's probably not posted yet.

  3. Zillow dot com may have the information you are looking for. Good Luck

  4. The county tax assessor has the info, some counties are online, others have to be visited.

Most real estate agents will look the information up for you as well.

The information is not public until after the transaction closes.
