Or how much would you be prepared to pay, assuming the course was a good par 72 and the club has good facilities?

  1. The other answers here are for private clubs.  If that is not your thing you can join a semi-private club for 500$ to 1500$ per year.  You do not have all the advantages of a private club but the fees are much more palatable.

  2. $59

  3. $1000 Australian tops. Actually I think thats really on the higher end of the scale if they charged me (under 21) that much.

  4. It all depends upon supply and demand. In Michigan, you can get into a good one for $1000 down and $5,000 a year. On the East coast, it could be five times that.

One word of warning about fees. In addition to the initiation and monthly membership fees, most clubs also assess periodic "special assessments" to pay for big ticket items like new carts, a new roof, etc. They can come at any point that the board of directors approves one, and you're obligated to pay. In some clubs, that can add up significantly.

There also typically are monthly food and beverage minimums. Those can run from $100 and up. This is in addition to the other fees. Finally, there are typically locker fees, bag storage fees, etc. Then there are the tips for the locker room attendants, bag boys, etc.

    It can add up.

  5. I paid a once off joining fee of $125 and about $550 a year membership fee at Marrickville Golf Club. It's a decent short course (Par 60, 3.7 km).

The best course I've ever played was the NSW Golf Course Par 72, 5.9Km (ranked 36th in the world, St Andrew by comparison is ranked 3rd). It'll cost a fortune to join.

I can only afford to pay about $2000 a year for membership but it wouldn't be a spectacular course.

  6. The rates will vary a lot depending on where you are.  The supply and demand for golf is so different from city to city.  For a "good" course, membership could be anything from zero initiation, 150 per month to 45,000 initiation, 300 a month.  If its a semi-private course, do some math and make sure it wouldnt be cheaper to pay each round than join.

  7. In the Washington DC Area, if you are former military you can join one of the military courses for less than $1000 a year.  I've seen a few limited play memberships (after 4 weekday, after 2 weekends). for around $1700 a year.  Many of the private clubs have a $5000+ initial fee and $300+ monthly fee.

  8. $70000 initiation and $650 a month Valencia Country Club the site of this weeks Senior Event.
