How much did you pay for your SmartCar?

I know it's not technically an "alternative fuel" but this seemed like where I'd get more hits than on the regular car boards.. I am interested in purchasing a SmartCar sometime in the future, when my current car gives out. How much did you pay for yours, and what type was it? (United States only, please).

The first smart cars imported into the US had a Mercedes engine and a few other thing that are different then the current ones, those cost about $24,000. and the two versions sole here at the same time. I'm not sure if the first ones are still available.

Just an FYI, not sure why you asked the question. the first two answers are also correct.

A co-worker of mine said the cost was about $14,000 for a Smart ForTwo.  I believe that includes some extra features, because the MSRP is $11,590.
