  1. $10,000 per academic year is a pretty safe bet for domestic students in a state university, not private or Ivy League. If you're an international student be prepared to see that figure jump 4-5x.

As a very general rule of thumb, $40,000 would get you your 4 year bachelor's degree. If your degree takes 6 years to do (like Pharmacy for example) then set aside at least $60,000 for your tuition.

  2. In the UK I think the numbers are now roughly £3k for tuition fees a year, and a maintenance loan of about 3k is also available, so you could say around 6k is average (as that's what is loaned).

If you add that up for 3 years it starts to get scary, but remember (many students forget), the fact you have a student loan doesn't mean you have to try and spend it all =D.

Easiest way to save some money is to work a part time job while you study, I used to work saturdays and sundays, but again this can be tiring if you have lectures all week. If you can get a fairly simple job (I worked in a supermarket =D), so you don't have to think about it, and don't have to take your work home with you, it's a decent way to make some money on the side. Also your employer should be a bit flexible, i.e. give you time off (unpaid if necessary) around your exams.
