And what type was your bird/parrot?

And if this isn't probing too far, what did do on the first checkup?

  1. i have a blue and gold and a umbrella, for both it cost me around $600 with nothing wrong with them just to check them out n stuff, then a few weeks ago my cockatoo broke his leg and to do everything for him it was about $1500 hes OK now though. So for big birds like the macaws and cockatoos its big bucks. Oh and another thing thats really expensive food and no you dont just go and bye them seeds i hafto cook for them and it takes time money and commitment.

For your bird it shouldnt cost a lot at all maybe $40 just to see it then comming in and all that it should come to $80/$90. All the vets do is basically look at him/her make sure it looks good and then your pretty much done.

  2. I brought in my budgie (parakeet).  My vet looked at her seer (Thing above beak with nostrils) and checked her skin, feathers, and weighed her.  Then, her toenails were too long so she cut those for an extra cost.  She also clipped her wings for me (which I don't suggest but I didn't know much about birds then).  That also cost me extra.  The initial checkup cost me 50 dollars.  With the wing clipping and toe nail clipping, it cost me about 80 bucks.  I am looking for a new avian vet now because this one is really expensive!  How much did your first checkup cost you?

  3. $55.00 for the vet visit and exam

    $120.00 for a CBC & chem panel

$120.00 for cultures (bacterial & fungal; chloacal and choanal)

$150.00 for PCR testing (Polyoma, PBFD & Chlamydia)

The wing clip was free :-)

  4. For ONE of my caiques, I paid about $75 for a well-bird check-up. They took a p**p sample (I had collected it that morning) and checked it for parasites, the vet weighed her, checked her eyes and condition of her beak and trimmed her nails. I also paid $45 extra to do a DNA s*x test because I wanted to know if she was actually a "she", and with caiques, that is the ONLY way to tell.
