I don't want to waste money on another exam if I bring in my old contacts can they use that to get the prescription for my glasses and contacts?

I heard your prescription thing expires every two years, is this true? I won't have to get another exam?

  1. You're right, the prescription expires every 2 years.  Also my glasses cost $204 with anti glare lenses and the frames are generic.

  2. Every eye doctor I've been to gives me yearly exams for both contacts and glasses.  I think the expiration date may be a state (not federal) guideline, but I could be incorrect.

I would suggest getting another exam since your eyes may have changed.  This may cost some money up front but if your eyes have changed even slightly it may help you avoid eye strain and/or other eye conditions.

Ask your doctor to take the prescription with you; you may be able to save money on the glasses/contacts at a different sales outlet other than your doctor's office.

Finally, to answer your question about pricing, without insurance, my glasses (frames, lenses) would have cost about $330 (US).  In my opinion, there is not much difference in the lens quality if you get the protective coatings or not.  I've had my lenses coated with it and without it and price aside, I actually prefer the lenses without the coating (which I've found starts to break down after a few years).

  3. you need a new script for glasses every 2 years and contacts every year...some stores like lenscrafters or other chain glasses stores have deals for frames like $99 but it depends on your lens for the total cost of the glasses...my last ones were $140 with lenses and frames

also why do you pay to get an eye exam it should be covered in your health insurance and if you dont have insurance you should get some
