How much discount should I ask for on a damaged television at Sears?

I am looking at a damaged television at Sears. The damage is to the screen. It has a bad scratch (or poke) about 1/4" in diameter and all the pixels behind it are white. (Will it spread?)

The TV is a Sylvania 37" LCD with built in DVD player. Labled: "Was $1079, Now $779" and listed as used (damaged box is not checked! Ha!). They are very motivated to get rid of clearance stuff, the salesman was quoting me 20% additional diacount off other clearance items.

I looked on line, Amazon says "List $979, Price $888"

I thought I would offer them $300 firm and mention the damage. What else are they gonna do with it? It is damaged pretty significantly. Waddya think? Thanks.

  1. the most they will probably give you is the 20%, they wont go as low as your thinking of. they will just send it back to the company if they cant sell it for what they are asking.

  2. at least 50% on recomended retail price ,dont settle less than 50% Discount ,else quit (dont Buy)

  3. Offer them $300....stick with $300 and walk away if they want $301.00

Personally that white spot would drive me nuts, so don't put any money towards it that you're not willing to....

And you seem to be willing to drop $300 on it.....

Will it spread? Is the Pope Catholic?

The real question is HOW FAR?

    And I can't answer that...maybe a pixel or two....maybe the whole area....
