  1. 15548 million

  2. Because per-capita oil consumption in the UK is 40% of what it is in the US, Brits spend less on gasoline.  The reason should be obvious: they have access to safe, reliable public transportation, and--in general--their cars are smaller and more energy efficient.

Our dependence on foreign oil is indebting us to countries to such an extent that, if we continure to eschew a serious energy-independence project, we will lose much of our sovereignty.  Furthermore, carbon emissions are the major contributor to global warming.  Other emissions are a threat to the health of people who live in urban areas.

The real question is now how much we spend, but how much do we have to spend?  Do we wish to continue to allow global corporations to control our media, our government, our policies for their profit, or do we wish to take matters into our own hands and build a pedestrian-friendly infrastructure in which we do not have to get into an automobile and drive somewhere to buy a loaf of bread?  Do we want do continue the blight of urban sprawl, or do we prefer to live once more in real communities, where we can walk to boutiques, cafés, restaurants, community theaters, parks, recreation centers, doctors' offices, dentist offices, etc.?

Why do we have to be corporate America's patsies?

  3. A BLOODY LOT LESS THAN WE DO IN THE UK.....

  4. Almost 2000$. 4cly Nissan pickup. 14 gal tank. 3.33 per gallon . 25mpg.  Live 20 miles from work. Geez....wish I had a horse.

  5. According to the gov't statistics, Americans spent 1,132,824,000 dollars on gasoline alone in 2006, the latest data available. That's 1.1 trillion, yes. I used the 2006 consumption data to find that there was 377 million gallons of gasoline sold and used $3/gallon as the base price. This is for all grades of gasoline together, though regular accounts for about 75-80% of gasoline sales.

  6. That would depends on the area you are talking about. I am in Montana and it is a long distance between towns so the average gas used would be much higher here than in a place where towns are closer together. I soend roughly $5,000 a year going an average of 20,000 miles annually at $3.40 a gallon
