Most Arson Investigators are firemen themselves. Most firefighters are volunteer firefighters, which would also mean that the Arson Investigator is a volunteer (and usually works for the county, not just for one fire department).

If you want a paid position, you will most likely have to become a firefighter in a city that has paid fire departments. You might also need special schooling.

I am unsure of the pay rate, but I know that it will vary where ever you go.
