Question:

How much do I feed my ball python?

He is a few inches over two feet and a little wider than a mouse.

I've been feeding him adult mice but I'm not sure...when do I know when to move on to larger food...or am I over feeding him?

I haven't noticed any pink coloration on his belly, so I'm guessing I can rule out overfeeding.

  1. depends on how often you feed him -- if you are feeding him mice more than 4 times a week then it might be time to move him up to a small rat. (small -- not sewer size!  :)  )

  2. I would continue with what you are doing.

Usually once you move up, there is no going back. So unless you are feeding him like 4 adult mice in a week or so - don't worry about it.

You can feed him an adult mouse from once a week to once a month.

  3. My BP Stan is just over 2 feet.  I feed him one adult mouse, once a week and he is doing great.  If your snake looks hungry after you feed him or you don't see a bump you can move up in food size but if anything it is healthier for them to have a smaller meal than a larger one.

  4. Sounds like you know what you're doing.  When I had one, I would wait until he had a bowel movement before feeding him again, then again, he wasn't as wide as the mice.  He was just a corn snake, barely two feet.  Ate about once a week or 3 times a month.
