I am a US citizen teaching in Korea for one month. My contract reads: Employee shall be paid the total amount of 1.3 million Korean won including all costs and airfare 2.0 million won 4 weeks. There are no more additional payments. How much, if any, will I have to pay the school for taxes? How do I know they are not pocketing the money?

  1. The rate is about 3.3% The school should be paying half of your health insurance (National Health Insurance program) and half of your pension. Also the school should pay your rent and you are responsible for your bills like utilities.

1.3 is an extremely low salary for Korea. I can only guess that this is part of the TALK program.
