Question:

How much do I pay the priest and the church? (Catholic)

We are having a Catholic wedding and I'm wanting to know what I should give to the priest and donate to the church. The priest performing the ceremony is not a priest at the church so one lump sum won't work. The church is also not asking for any fee because I'm a member. We will still make a contribution, but are wondering what a priest can personally accept as well.

  1. Hi.  Usually the priest has a set fee, so you could simply ask him what his fee is.  If you don't want to ask, then I would say anywhere from $100-$150 would be appropriate.

For the church....really, if you are a member of that parish...then nothing!  The church is yours to use because you regularly (hopefully!) support the church with your offering envelope.  If you are not a regular attending and giving member, then I would say $200 would be a good amount for a donation.

    Good luck.

  2. I would suggest at least 100 for the church and 200 for the priest.

  3. At my church we are giving $200 to the general fund and a gift of $150 to my pastor, who is also marrying us for free since we are members. I am not sure how much a priest can accept as a gift, maybe ask the clergy at your church? Good question!

  4. The amount you give is based upon your financial situation.

The fee usually given for the church is 100-150 and for the priest anywhere from 50-100.

I believe we are giving out $75 dollars, but they won't refuse to marry you if you give less. It's what you feel is a good offering based on your finances.

  5. $200 to the church is standard. $100 to $150 to the priest as well.

  6. you can give as much as you want... but 150-250 would work.

  7. We're getting married at a Catholic church and even though my fiance is a member there is still a fee...maybe a good one to go off of.  For the chapel it is 375 and a 'donation' of 100 dollars for the priest's services.

  8. I am getting marrie din the Catholic church in 2 weeks. The fee for the church itself is $600.00. The organist is $250.00 and the priest fee is $200.00. Of course, we live in a resort community and these are the fees for members of the parish. Others can pay up to $2500.00 jsut for the church!!!

  9. Basically it is as much as you can afford. when my sister got married they gave £300 ($150) to the church and the priest got £200 ($100) and a bottle of Gin, its what he drinks.
