Sending an SMS message to Vietnam costs nothing if you can find a means to send the message by E-mail of a Web portal. How to send one is the tricky part.

Some of the cell phone companies in Vietnam have Web site access for sending SMS messages, but not all of them. Sometimes, the cell phone company will assign an E-mail address, which will allow you to send SMS to a cell phone. The receiver may or may not be charged for receiving the message, but usually there is no charge.  

SMS service is inconsistant in Vietnam, and you should check with the cell phone company for the exact details.
