  1. I am a medical assistant in North Dakota.  after 9 yrs of experience I now make $22,000 a year

  2. Some jobs only pay slightly above minimum wage for one's state of residence.  Unfortunately, there aren't supposed to be too many jobs for the MAs (or medical billers or coders) despite what the private $$ schools tend to proclaim :)  Perhaps look for related jobs til finding such a position such as medical receptionist, medical records (health information) clerk, office assistant or such.  Temp agencies may also be a great way to get job experience albeit without the fringe benefits.

General career info:  http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'medical assistants' or such.

  3. The website for US Labor Statistics puts the average at about $26,000/year- with hospitals paying the most. Of course a lot depends on the depand and the cost of living in your area.

  4. Here in south GA Medical Assistants make anywhere from 7.50 per hour. With NO benefits! This is in a rural area. Larger cities start around 9 or so. So I guess it really depends on the area.
