  1. for a rectangular bale of lucerern hay in -brisbane queensland Austrlia- its $18.50 because of the drought!

  2. I'm in northern MD and am paying $5 a bale for grass hay and $50 for a roundbale.  Luckily the rain has been good and I have grass.  Not really feeding hay right now.

  3. In MICHIGAN I get hay at $2.50 a square bale and $25 a round bale! Hope I helped!

  4. $6/bale for very good quality orchard grass bales in central MD.  I've only bought one load so far this year and that's the same price as last year.  I was hoping it would come down a bit since the weather is much better so far this year, but the farmer cites high fuel and fertilizer prices.  Year before last, I paid $3.50/bale for this same hay.

  5. the cheapest square bales we can find here in Indiana are $8.50 a bale.....  isnt that crazy?

  6. Gah...I live in central Oregon and right now where I am working they pay about $260 for a ton of hay (good quality)...three twined bales at about 130 lbs. per bale.  It's like putting gas in your car.

Mine looks like c**p.  Weeds galore.

    COASTAL:

I managed to hoard away enough to get me to March but then I had to buy.

I was given the cheap price of $40 for the round bale while others were told $50 (he hays my field so I'm buying back my own hay!)

Small bales were getting $4.50 a bale.

In the fall it was $80 for a round bale of coastal and $8 for a small square!  Hay was in high demand.  Some farmers were holding the hay back waiting for the best time to sell.

Lots of starving horses around here too. :(

People trucking in Timothy are paying something like $12 a bale.

Just pulled in 4 round bales and gave my farmer the rest.

It's a bad cut (weedy) but the next cut will be good and small bales.  :)

  10. I'm moving to where some of you live..I'm in California and alfalfa is between 16.00 and 20 dollars a bale, timothy/orchard 21 dollars a bale.  I buy grass to and i think it was 13 dollars a bale.

  11. I just moved to central Oklahoma from Austin Texas.  We paid $7 for 50lb bales of coastal grass last year in Austin, $4 for 60lb bales of orchard grass last winter in Stillwater.  I am growing my own this year but the gas to bale it OUCH. I am from Illinois and have friends there who are paying $2.50 -$3.00 for 75lb bales of orchard grass and $3.75 for alfalfa.

  14. I can hardly imagine what hay prices will be this year...no doubt through the roof.  Here in Central Oregon, good grass hay/timothy mix, last year's cut is going for $200 to $245 a ton retail..that's right, last years cut....

  15. We grow and bale our own hay.  I figure that this year it will cost me about $2 a bale to put up if we don't loose any to rain or drought.  Hay is extremely high here now since we usually can bale first crop the last week in May and this year it still isn't ready to cut and it's the middle of June!

It might interest people to know that it takes about 3 hours of my time to put up 100 bales from cutting to raking to baleing to putting up into the mow,  if nothing much breaks.

  16. $6.50 for a 50lb bag of alfalfa hay cubes.
