  2. It depends where you work and what you do.  I work with chemical engineers and they work pretty typical hours, about 40 a week.  I think they make around 60k, but it depends on the level of experience.  Some of the ones who have been there a long time make 80-100k.

  3. According to PayScale.com, the median chemical engineer salary for someone with a master's of science degree is in the range of $70,000 to $80,000.  It's true, though, that salaries vary depending on more than just degree - location, experience and employment setting are also important factors to consider.

On the plus side, chemical engineer salaries are fairly high even for those without higher degrees.  Chemical engineering is at the top of PayScale's list of undergraduate college degrees that lead to high salaries: http://www.payscale.com/best-colleges/de...

To find more accurate salary data for your specific Chemical Engineer position, you can take PayScale's free salary survey. http://www.payscale.com/?src=yahooA

    Hope that helps,

  4. Suffocating?  Good grief.

Starting salaries are getting very high.  $80,000 ish for a Bachelor's degree.  Technically, the M.S. is not worth anything by itself.  They'd probably give you an extra $5000 starting salary so you wouldn't feel bad, then take it away by smaller raises over the next 5 years.
