How much do college professors make?

I've always been a really good student. 4.44 GPA/28 ACT.

My dream in life is to be a college professor at an ivy league school.

How much do these professors typically get paid and what do I have to do to be one?

  1. Most collage teachers make beetween 60,000-80,000. part time collage teachers make 30,000-50,000. All of the above is community collage. so if you want to be a private collage teacher it would be about 80,000-100,000

  2. The professors at my university make between $60,000 and $150,000 depending on how long they've worked there and how good they are at teaching and research.  4-year college and university professors have PhDs in their field, and do research as well as teach.  Ivy League professors have PhDs from Ivy League universities - the rule of thumb is that you stay at the level of the university you got your degree from or move down, but rarely ever get a job teaching at a university if you got your PhD from a lower-tier in that field.  So a top school in your field will give you a shot at teaching at an Ivy.

You'll need a PhD (about 10 years of college) and at least one post-doctoral position (2-3 years) in your field before applying for a job as a professor at a top school.
