  1. In CA they make $76,000 a year. That is the starting rate.

  2. This varies with either county, state or Federal positions, but a state Correctional Officer for Ohio starts at $31,000 a year ($15.50 per hour to start) and maxes out at $44,000 a year after 7 years on the job.

These are base salary figures for Ohio. This does not include roll call, shift differential, holiday, premium or overtime pay.

I work minimum overtime and I gross $70,000 a year by the time all the other items are included.

I hope this helps and you can find it useful

  3. It depends on several things First are you interested in a State or Federal Prison, Second what state are you in. I work for the D.O.C. (Department Of Correction) here in North Carolina and we start out at about 32000 a year. Good Luck.

  4. $5.84.

  5. Not as much as most of the people they are baby sitting in there. It is a fun job . $14 an hour Texas

  6. it depends on where you are and what the regulations are in that state/county. find out from your local office.

  7. 76K is not the starting salary in CA.  76K is the maxed out salary for a correctional officer... which takes around 7 yrs to obtain.

Which may sound like a lot of money but the cost of living in CA is typically higher than most other states.

Salary will depend on the state you're in... the type of department you work for, whether it's private, federal or state.

Most departments have websites which should give you an approximate answer regarding salary.

As in every profession, there are slobs but that's not the majority.  Being a c/o is not an easy job.  It's dangerous, stressful and often unfulfilling.  The job will change you and your family.  The hours are diffcult, the lack of a schedule is hard to deal with and being surrounded by convicts can be hard.  The odds that you will be assaulted are great and you will see fellow staff assaulted.  Think long and hard before committing to this type of job.

    Good luck!
