  1. No matter how high the number look. Cops make a little above the average cost of living in their respective area.  Dnt get hyped. BUt you might have opportunity to do over time. POlice officer is a passionate job dont do it for the money you will commit suicide !

  2. From Connecticut Occupational Employment Survey 2007

    Police and Sheriff's Patrol Officers

    Entry         Mid- Average         Hourly     Annual

    21.91      20.80 - 35.03         27.33      56,843

  3. $70,000.00 a year ?

    Some do.

    Some don't

    You will NOT

Sorry about that.  There are too many variables involved in that $70,000.00 number.

  4. I think that will mainly depend on what area you are in.  They do say that the average salary is $73,000. My brother has been a cop for a few years now in southern Alabama, and he does not make anywhere near that amount, I would say he makes in the mid 50's.

Here's a link to a pretty good chart that shows what the hourly average rate depending on the number of years experience would be:

  5. That would be very good for starting pay on a national level. Chicago police dont start that high.

I live about an hour from Chicago and when I retired 4 years ago from our department, I was only making $60,000.00 a year and I was a Sergeant. Then again , our town is about 13 thousand people even though we are considered a subburb of Chicago.
