  1. Hi George,

PREPARE to SAVE some MONEY!!!!   If you have already been shopping in jewelry shops for brand new engagement rings you know they are ridiculously out of sight.   Don't even think about it.

Who thinks you are horrible??? Who thinks you are CHEAP???  I think you are being VERY smart and thrifty.   You are just saving the money that the poor soul that pawned the ring lost when it bought it new.   And besides that....   the diamond is milions of years old... and the gold is milions of years old.   It is already old even if you bought it new!!!

Depending on what you like and the quality and size of the diamond  I am going to say you can find a nice ring from between $450.00 and $1000.00.  But no matter what price is on the ring.. never pay the tag price.   Always ask  "what is your best price"?  and act like you are an old hat at pawn shopping.  If they don't give you a discounted price on the ring....  go to the next place...  but usually they will take something off to give you a better deal.   Sometimes they will come down from 25% to 35%.. or that has been my experience.

I don't see one thing wrong with buying jewelry at a pawn shop... just make sure that the clerk shows you that it is a real diamond by putting the diamond tester on it in front of your eyes.  If the light turns green.... it is truly a genuine diamond.   You can then take it to a jewelry store to have it steam cleaned and the gold polished.  The ring will look like brand new and no one will know the difference.

PS:   Oh yes....  also ask the clerk to use his loupe to look into the diamond... you want to make sure there are no serious inclusions or cracks through the stone!!

    Thanks for reading and

    Best of Luck!!!

  2. It depends on the Pawn shop and condition of the ring. I would say just go and shop around becasue some will try and snake you but honestly with the upcoming sales for the new season u can get a new one for just about the same price a pawn shop would offer. Thanksgiving day sales are amazing, if u want to wait that long.

I brought myself a Ruby solitaire for a self bday present last yr and at a pawn shop it was $575 and a lady at Bloomingdales jewelry when i went looking (and i told her where i was ggonna buy it from) told me to wait til sale season and it would go down. i put the ring on layaway to insure itll be there with a min paymnt of $25 a mnth (my bday is in july) when thnksgiving day sale came, ring went from $799 to $599. I had already paid $100 n paid out rest. got a brand new ring for $24 more than what pawn shop offered. just wait n shop around but if u wanna go cheaper, still shop around in pawn shops.

  3. You should try looking on ebay....

  4. it depends on the size, clarity, size, condition.  Basically it's going to be anywhere from 15%-40% less then the cost of the same ring brand new.  Your better to look for a used one on EBAY of in the paper....people sell them to the pawn shop cheaper then what you buy it for, you might as well get them from someone at the cheaper price before they pawn them.  A lot of times they have a ring that was said no to so never worn, or online you might get a jeweler going out of business selling for cheap.

  6. Depends on the pawn shop and the ring.  Try going in a looking.

Oh yeah, don't worry about it being used, sometimes money sucks.  Just don't tell her where it's from.

  7. NOTHING WRONG WITH A USED RING..........  IT'S NOT THE PAST THAT IS IMPORTANT, IT'S THE FUTURE OF THE RING,   RINGS CAN COST FROM $25.OO TIL $1,000.  DEPENDS ON WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR & WHAT YOUR BUDGET ALLOWS...... NOTHING WRONG WITH A USED RING.........

  8. Completely and utterly depends on what you want. Could be as low as $20. Could be as high as $20,000. You get what you pay for. Figure out your budget and get the best ring you can!

One bonus for getting a used ring: you have a budget, like it or not. So let's say, for the sake of argument, that you want to spend $200. What is better: a new crappy ring for $200, or a used one that will likely be of higher quality because it is "used?"

Just make sure you get it appraised.

    Good luck!

  9. First of all, I don't think you're being cheap and getting a "used" ring is not horrible. My fiance got my ring set (engagement and wedding band) for $400 from a pawn shop. The shop he got it from had an appraisal with it, and the set was appraised at almost $1500, and it was in beautiful condition. All I had to do was get them sized.

I'm not as materialistic as some women, but I was not offended in the least by the fact that he got it from a pawn shop. I know he bought the rings with the intention of giving it to ME, and that's what's important, what it symbolizes. Now, using a ring that was previously purchased by him for another girl and then given to me... now THAT would p*ss me off, lol... The fact that he got it at a pawn shop doesn't bother me (in fact, I would have been mad if he would have gone into debt just to get me a ring, but that's just me, I'm more practical that way)  just knowing that he got it for ME means more than how much he spent.

Do your homework, shop around... price out what you want at a few jewelry stores so you know what the retail value of things is, then go to the pawn stores so you know if you're getting a good value or not.

    Good luck! :)

  10. I think it really depends on the diamond and how much they paid for it.  A solitaire with some side stones could cost you anywhere from $200 to $2,000 as a general guess.  This isn't something that can really be generalized by rings since size and quality still matter whether it is the pawn shop or not.  I've actually found that pawn shops can be a real rip off.  I've seen the same products in a pawn shop sold for the same if not more than in the stores.  To be safe you should look around at several different locations to make sure you are getting a fair price.

And...I don't think you are cheap.  If you can get a nicer ring for less money then go for it.

  11. I have saw them for anywhere from $30.00 and up.  It really depends on what ur looking to spend.  By the way, the ring itself is not that important.  At least to me.  It's how the ring is presented.  Make sure u make it memorable.  Do something she will never forget.  It doesn't have to cost anything.  Just do it up nicely.

  12. It's much better to get a ring from a pawn shop! You can get a fancier ring for less money. It's going to depend on the ring, and it varies a lot. My ring is not from a pawn shop, but it was previously owned (it's an estate piece from a local jeweller) It was under $1000 (I'm not going to ask, but I think it was about $800). It's yellow gold with filligree work, large centre sapphire and 21 points of diamonds (14 stones) around the outside. Most rings nowadays are much plainer and less suited to me. By buying an estate ring my fiance got me a nicer ring for much less.

  13. I would go in and look around...I would be careful though...some might alter the information and sell you a fake diamond.  I have seen it happen to someone.  I have also seen where the ring was later taken by police, as it was stolen and traced to the pawn shop...then to the seller...needless to say, that couple is no longer together.

I would get something meaningful...a lot of jewelers have interest free financing and clearanced items that are a lot more affordable and genuine.

    best of luck to you.

  14. Um... however much it costs. The only way you'll know is if you go down there to find out. Also what they sell them for isn't the amount they'll give you for a ring. It will be less.

I personally wouldn't like the  bad karma from a used engagement ring that ended up in a pawn shop.

  15. Sometimes you can get them really cheap like $30 bucks.. Just be sure to clean it up really good for her. Dont tell her anything about it. and she wont ever know.

  16. TOTALLY depends on the ring, the stone, the metal quality etc, the age of the ring and the state it is in - ie, if it is damamged etc! Sorry hun, its quite hard to answer. I would reckon on it not being too far off the original price, say if it was $1000 in the shop, itll probably be around $800 in a pawn shop.

I would suggest looking round the pawn shops, finding one you like and taking a pic to a jewellers to see if they have a new one for a similar price. Good luck :)
