  1. Last time I flew in Canada, the prices were very similar to the US. You are looking at anywhere from $25-50 per hour for instructor, and, depending on the plane, $100-300 per hour for the plane. The latter price will gravitate towards $100 if you are getting a private certificate, because you will probably train in a Skyhawk or a Warrior, which are fairly cheap. If you are going to get a multi, aim for at least $200 an hour, since those things go through gas like its their job.

    As far as hours go, CARs Private Certificate rules require that you have a minimum of 40 hours ground and 45 hours flight, 5 of which can be done in a simulator (which is typically around $50 an hour).

    From experience, I can tell you that 85 hours might ready you for the exam, but in all likelihood, you might need a few extra hours.
