How much do foster parents get paid?

i'm just wondering, i'm not saying that money should influence the decision to foster a child, i would take a child in if i only got 5 cents per week! so yea, how much would the typical pay be for fostering?

It's going to differ from state to state and even among agencies within a state but here in Colorado I usually averaged about 11 dollars per day.

We are foster parents and the average here is $19 a day. It all goes to the kids' care: diapers, babyfood, toys, clothes, gas to the doctor appointments and court, etc... We realize that we would do it even without money for it, but when taking a very ill child with many needs, it does play a part. My philosophy is that I am not the one that "broke" the child. I am the one that will be doing everything in my power to heal and love that child because it's biological family can't or won't.

depends on the state and the age of the child as well as what concerns they may have.  In illinois a typical child under 4 is about 400 a month but if the child has behaviors or medical concerns  its about 1200 a month.  It goes up with age teenagers are almost 600 a month.  part of that is allowance for the child and for clothing the rest is considered board payment.

you get more as the child gets older and if the child has disabilities.  but when figuring out how much someone gets to be a foster parent remember that this is not a 9 to 5 job 5 days a week it is a 24 hour job and it is 7 days a week.  not to mention you take in children love them and when they go home you get heartbroken and cry for days.  so don't do this for money or the children will suffer and if you take a 9 to 5 job you will get paid lots more.  even at the 35 a day you have it figured out to although on th chart the highest i see is 879 per month divided by 31 days is 29 a day but divide that by 24 hours and it comes out to $1.18 per hour and at the 35 a day it comes out to $1.45 and hour so if you just want money go get a 40 hour a week job and a much better paycheck.

It depends on where you live. I know that in BC (Canada) you get about $600 per month. But, if you live in the US, the system there is very different. You'll have to contact Family and Children's Services directly.

reneaumommy has it right, The state of Missouri works the same. I also agree that it is awful for people to do this just for the money but there are lots who do.

Not nearly enough.  If you are asking this question you should not become a foster parent.  It is emotionally rewarding NOT financially rewarding.

I live in Texas and for a Level 1 (no major problems) it is $21 a day, then I think $36 and then $45 (depending on the disabilities).  I would pay the state $21 a day for the rest of my life if I could just get this adoption thing done and over with!!!  If you are considering fostering, I commend you.  I have been blessed with 2 kids so far.  They are gifts from God and I would never trade them for any other kid in the whole world.  Dealing with the state has something left to be desired but it is so worth it to see these kids grow and change and become wonderful little people.  I dont know why people complain about the money either.  It is more than enough to take care of the kids I have.  It is considered "reimbursment" not pay.  And it definatly covers clothing, diapers, and food for them plus some toys occasionally.  Also, in my state, there is a $75 starting out thing they pay you for when the kids come with little or nothing and you have to get a starter set of clothes and diapers and wipies ect...  Hope this helps you out in some way.  Best Wishes and God Bless.

P.S. you also get to have WIC that pays for formula and then when they are older, milk, juice, cheese ect... which saves money and you have access to the food bank where you can get a whole gammot of things such as diapers, cookies, tea, meat, laundrey soap, the list goes on..... so, in my opinion, the state does do what they can to not burden you financially :)  Also, in Texas, age doesnt matter, its a flat rate depending on the Level of care they will require.

please dont look at adoption for the money... There are hundreds of children out there who need someone that loves them. Please help a child... Not because of the money involved but because you care...

I am a foster parent and where we live we get paid $25.00 a day reguardless of age, disability level, etc.  Money was not a deciding factor for us because we are looking to adopt from the state.  So, initially we were not concerned with the money.  However, foster parenting is a full time job that requires lots of overtime!  I love it, but the daily stipend helps, because I am able to be at home with the children.  This is helpful, because there have been times when birthparents will request a visit and expect you to be there in 2 hours!  If you have a job outside the home it makes if difficult to deal with those situations.  PLEASE DON'T MISUNDERSTAND, BECUASE WE ARE NOT DOING IT FOR THE MONEY, but it does help so that I can be a full time foster mom, which many of the children we have fostered needed.

If money is not an issue for you, and you have a heart for children, I highly recommend becoming a foster parent.

Depends on the age of the children and the state. In my opinion not enough for raising children.
