How much do gas prices vary among US states?

Would oil "richer" states like Texas and Alaska have lower prices than Hawaii or North Dakota?

  1. where i live in new jersey its about $3.83 and suprisingly dropping but i took a campout to connecticut and sdaw the price for regular gas was $4.45 wow  


  2. i think the price of gas is lower everywhere but california, right now gas here is about $4.78 a gallon  

  3. Most of the state variance in retail gasoline prices is a function of the level of state taxation. States with very high taxes -- e.g. NY, CA, HI -- will have higher prices. States with low taxes  -- e.g. Alaska, Wyoming -- will have lower prices.  The tax in California is 36 cents higher than in Alaska, for instance.
