How much do guinea pigs eat?

My guinea pig eat about 1 bowl of food every two days. He also eats about 1/2 cup of veggies everyday and eats lots and lots of lettuce. Is that to much food? How often should you clean a cage? How fast should the cage get smelly?

Give him as much as he can eat, he will stop when he's full.

His bedding needs scooping in the corners or areas with lots of pee and poo every day and his entire cage should be cleaned every one or two weeks.

they should have munchies all the time..like alfalfa and pellets and also offer him other things to chew...instead of the cage....like little chewieez made for g.pigs. you can find them at walmart and any pet store..their teeth are always growing..so they will always chew..

i think the fresh veggies are a great idea make sure you don't do too much tho..he could get loose stool..also if you get a good cage cleaning schedule..it shouldn't get smelly..you gotta keep these guys clean,so they can stay healthy...you could also get him a big ball to walk around in..it will get him some exercise and keep him fairly safe..you gotta watch him still..also you could get him some big cardboard tunnels to hide and play in..mine love them..we get the cores from rolls of paper..make sure they arent contaminated with anything...cause he will chew em..these guys are aw some pets..they can come when called and do all kinds of cool stuff..when trained...check out some good books on g.pigs..the ones we got helped a ton,,and ask your local pet store too.. good luck.
