  1. In order to become a hairdresser, you will need to do an apprenticeship or traineeship for 3 or 4 years. During that time, you will work part-time in a salon and go to hairdressing school the rest of the time. Pay during the apprenticeship is low but you are being trained and gaining experience.

Go to http://www.wageline.qld.gov.au/aol/wagel... for information on award wages for trainee and qualified hairdressers. These are the minimum rates of pay. Many experienced hairdressers negotiate above award wages with their employer..

  2. not much... 3 yrs ago i started my first yr apprenticeship and only got 180 a week don't no if it has gone up by then.

But my sister owns a salon and she only pays her full time qualified staff around 570-600 a week depending on the age of course.

if you wanna do hairdressing the cheapest way is an appenctisehip but the quickest way to do it is also doing the 1yr fulltime certificate 3 course. You will have it over and done with in 1 year and then ready to work qualified then but the courses here for that arent cheap there vary between 12k-16k

  3. Actually most hairdressers won't hire you unless you do a pre-apprenticeship before the 3 years it takes to do your apprenticeship, also having a pre-apprenticeship takes a year off your apprenticeship. Which is why it's 3 years not 4. Even after you've done your pre-app. and you start you 1st year Apprenticeship you still get stuck with washing hair, sweeping the floor, mopping, making coffee etc. Some employers have you train with them for the 3 years or it's half schooling, half working in a salon.

All employers pay differently, $220 AUD a week is probably the minimum amount.

    Hope this helps.

P.S. The pre-apprenticeship takes 6 months full time study and 1 year for part time study
