Here's a list of the things you might need, and the price.

Hamster, of course... $10-$20

A good cage- $35-$50

Bedding (Carefresh is the best brand)- $5-$15

Chews- $2-$4

Chinchilla **SAND**- $4-$7

Food dish- $3

Water Bottle- $2-$4

Wheel- $5-$6

Total: $66-$109

Some cages already come with a wheel or a food dish or a water bottle, so it would be cheaper if you got a cage like that.

hamsters don't cost a lot.....

with cages they vary a lot in style and price.

what you can do & you don't have to do this....Is to go around and shop prices on all the items. talk to the people that know hamsters well & get advice on products. figure out which store has the best prices on what. who has your supplies at a good price for the amount you are getting. pay attention to weights on food to get the best value for your money. take your time.

a very important tip: make sure when they sell you a hamster to have an expert check the hamster to make sure it's not pregnant, or sick with wet tail. google "wet tail" and also google "pregnant hamster" to get some basic information so you know what a healthy hamster should look like you can also google"healthy hamster".....it's only a suggestion. you do not have to.....vets are very exspensive for small animals is all and it's a part of the cost of getting one if something is wrong.

Well....take your time, ask the employees at the pet stores a lot of questions and have fun....

You can buy online but the shipping costs often are more than the item you buy. Oh, Petco and PetSmart do free shipping from store to store. That means if you choose to pick it up at a certain location you won't have shipping fees. Just incase you didn't know....and you don't have to feel forced to do any of this...It's up to you.

Cage: $20-40 (we will average 30)

Syrians will sometimes get stuck in Critter Trail and Sam/penplax tubes. Aquiruim cages can be expensive and also hard to find and buy.

Otherwise i think you really should make a bin cage. They are really suprior because they can be huge and cost nothing compared to wire and plastic cages. Here are two links on how to make bin cages(>$20):

Wheel: Comes with the cage usually (5)

A wheel comes with the two wire cages i showed you. But many people turn to a different wheel. If you choose to make a bin cage you will need to buy a wheel.

If you are on a budget i alos suggest unbleached tolite paper.(3-7 for a LOT!) All you do is rip to squares from the roll and put them in the cage your hamster will love it

Hamster: 10-20(average 15)Now this really depends where you live many people it costs less than 10 dollars, but i live in NJ and most hamsters cost $15.

Hamster Ball: $7(not needed)

This is not a must be i reccommend it. This is great to let your hamster out in to get exsercize and can be a good place to put her when you are cleaning the cage.

A good guide...

$30+ for the cage.

bedding (expect to pay around $5.00 for the first bedding back, or you can get bulk bedding cheap :3)

food (eh, 3-5 for bag)

food/water dishes (optional IF you can find something suitable at home, but i'd reccomend just buying some) up to 3 dollars each, i'd say.

toys? i'd suggest getting some.

hamster = 7-12 dollars
