  1. Is your goat a male or a female?  If it is a male, you will NOT want to feed any grain or rich hay (i.e. straight alfalfa).  Male goats can have issues with urinary calculi (urinary stones)  if their diet is too rich.

Most goats will do just fine with grass/alfalfa mix hay.  My goats get as much hay as they want - they can't really over eat hay.  If they start to get fat, you can cut back on the amount.

Does (female goats) can have a small amount of grain, but don't let them get fat.  I don't feed my goats any grain unless they are milking.

Goats also need a good mineral.  I like Purina Mill's Goat Mineral.

  2. They need mostly roughage, such as grass hay..  They are ruminants, meaning they have 4 "stomachs".  actually 4 sections of their stomach.  so they can store grass hay and ferment/digest it over time.  That also means they are very efficient with their food, so they need less than you might think.  If he seems thin, feed more hay, if he seems chubby, feed less.

Do NOT feed rich grains or he will get really sick.  A handful here and there as a treat is OK but he will bloat if he eats a large amount of rich grain.

    Call your local Vet.

  4. goats will eat anything and everything just keep giving it food until its had enough
