  1. First Don't wait until you have a PHD to apply for a job.

You won't walk in anyone's door in engineering for 90K a year.

Second get an engineering degree in a field that is not saturated with engineers, right now, material engineers are in high demand, not only in aerospace, but in many industries.

When you do get that great job after only having received a bachelors degree, if you go to work for a large employer, like Boeing, Textron, Lockheed, United Space Alliance (USA), etc, they will pay for your graduate education. Company policies differ, some will only pay for a masters degree, while others will pay for a PHD.

A person who holds a PHD with no applicable engineering experience is about the equivalent to someone who has been in the engineering work force for 2-3 years.

One other note- Don't run up 100K in student loans, we really don't care where the degree comes from, just what it says on it, and that the school is properly accredited.

  2. Those are generally $90K to $125K jobs.  Can't be more specific until hiring time.  A lot depends on your interview skills and just dumb luck.

  3. Depends on how good you are.
