  1. TAKE £5435 (NEXT MONTH £6035) and divide it by the number of pay intervals in a year. If you earn more than that, you'll pay tax.  (If you earn more than £6.53 per hour, you're taxable)

  2. Add a zero to the end of your tax code and that gives you the amount you can earn tax free, so £5,220.

  3. Take the number in your tax code and Multiply by 10:

    Giving: 5220 pounds

  4. anything over about £95 per week will be taxed, have you claimed child tax or working tax credit. 522L is the working persons tax code unless you are a working pensioner or company director or have company car.

  5. You can earn £5225 tax free, then you pay 10% on the next £2200 (approx)  and 22% on anything above that.

  6. If your tax code is 522 it means you are allowed to earn £5220 before you start paying income tax. Your boyfriends earnings have nothing to do with you.

  7. First I would query if your code number is correct. Have you been notified of this by tax office, or did employer fail to budget-uprate last April? The first answer is also out of date, with last year's figures.

You are taxed on the money you earn, hours worked have nothing to do with it. Whether or not you should be paying tax depends on your weekly wage. Current limit is about £104 per week, going up in September.

There are no longer any tax allowances for children.

  8. It looks like five thousand two hundred and twenty one pounds, then you pay tax.
