Hi, I am a 17 year old junior in high school, I enlisted in the Army National Gaurd and I am shipping off to Fort Knox for basic training June 18 this year, I am a calvary scout I was just wondering, how much running will I be doing a day? marching doesn't really bother me neither does walking, it's just the running, I was wondering how much running I will have to do at one time a day, I can do a full mile in like 6-7 minutes without stopping but i dont sprint, it's more like a steady paced jog, I know I can do a 2 mile run but I don't know how fast, I am practicing right now everyday until I get to basic this summer, I run a full mile at a track, then walk a lap then alternate running and walking every other lap, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I will have to wear equipment and stuff while running too, I just wanted to be as specific as I could as to get the best answer I can, also, the heat will affect me too, any tips and info would be awesome thank you!

  1. Yea, you can count on running anywhere from 3-6 miles a day.  I wasn't an 11B by any means but my husband was.  I was admin :o.

Anyhow, you will build up your stamina, trust me!  Kudos for practicing now because there were many people who would fall out and get yelled at in the beginning.  The Army drill sergeants will make you drink more than enough water.  No worries there my friend!

If you can put on a backpack with 40lbs or so and do a slow jog for a couple of miles, that will be tremendously helpful for you too.  Typically ruck marches are 12K.

Good luck and thanks for making the choice to serve your country!

  2. First, you don't know you're going into Cav.  They may have given you 11B, but that doesn't mean anything.

Keep running and get used to doing 5-6 miles every other day.
