Question:

How much do in-home autism behavioral therapists/early interventionists with a master's degree make per hour?

I am currently a special education teacher. I use to work in-home doing early intervention with young children with autism. I have completed my MS in special education and I want to go back to working for a nonpublic agency (I like working 1-on-1 rather than the whole class). I will qualify to supervise cases, I'm just wondering if anyone thinks this is a good career step and if anyone with a master's degree working in the field could tell me how much I should expect to make. Also is it stressful? Are you looking to leave this field? I know it can't be as stressful as teaching!

  1. I'm assuming you provide a specialize autism therapy like ABA.

In my area- a teacher with a masters degree can start at $50-$60 per hour.

I find it less stressful-as my boss is great-there isn't the us v them attitude and the abuse of faculty by administration that I experienced in the public schools-

with the price of gas-it's rough-I used to spend about $200 per month-now I spend $600-

keep in mind that you only get paid for face to face hours--full time ranges from 20-30 face to face hours which equals 30 to 40+ hours with driving at prep time--

some agencies will reimburse you for travel expenses
