How much do letters of reccomendation help admissions?

Question

I already have 2 letters of reccomendation, however a family friend offered to write me one as well. I do not personally know him very well but he is a retired dean at the university I am applying to. My question is how much would that impact my admission if any, because I prefer to accomplish things on my own and I don't know him well.
