How much do makeup artist get paid?

I live in Columbus, Ohio and I would like to know about how much would I get paid here.

well they get thousands for wedding makeup and for regular makeup  they make atleat 100 dollars per client..

It really depends on your goals. Starting out if you're lucky to land a job at a place like MAC cosmetics whether in the mall or another shopping chain you can build from there. The beginning pay rate is fairly decent and once you build a strong client database then you start doing independent work or private work (i. e. weddings, fashion shows, etc.) which can definitely pay more. Your first couple years salaries can range from $25k-$40k, which include some side projects. From there, if you move up to management level or work with production companies it could be a lot more. The goal is to get really good, make a name for yourself and move up, that's how many of the make up artists make it big.

It really depends on several factors.

1. Where you are located!  This is a huge part because the minimum wage in your area may be low compared to say New York.  If a makeup artist is charging $1,000 for a wedding in New York it may be the standard in that area but if you turn around & try to charge $1,000 in your area it may be considered EXTREMELY over priced.

2. If you are planning to work at a cosmetic counter at your local department store or freelancing for yourself.  If you are considering working at your local counter there is a set hourly rate with or without commission.  If you are freelancing for yourself you are in charge of your rates but make sure they are reasonable!
