  1. im not sure in australia but in the uk under  Ã‚£100 - £1000 depending on the horse

  2. I would only take the minis that will not sell at all. Some of the ones at auction actually go to good homes and trying to outbid those byers would be counter productive as a rescue. I would try to hook up with other rescues (dog and horse) and take in any minis they get because they cannot care for them properly. Lots of dog rescues get calls about minis that people bought as babies, not realizing they grow up and need HORSE care. I live in the southeast US and the auctions there would break anyones heart. I would beware of minis that seem off in some way because drugging unhandled horses has become popular here. Some dont get enough to give them the really drugged look so some will just appear an little different or slower. Funny/Bad story: At my old barn the owner would pick up the nastiest skinniest horses for bargin prices and fatten them up to train and use as trail horses for his business. First his daughter broke them then he rode them aa the lead horse, then they went to advanced costomers or were sold. He made lots of money. One night there were lots of horses at he auction that fitted what he was looking for. I wasnt there but no doubt every one of them were emeciated (sp?). He and a buddy started going over the horses before the auction started. I guess they got pressed for time and were not a watchful a usual. Well they bought a bunch and took them all home really late that night (1-2ish). They turned the horses out in a 2-3 acre pasture to spend the night untill everyone could be really evaluated. The next morning everyone was hungry and willing to be caught except for one. A bay mare refused to get within 30 feet of enyone. She had seemed calm to night before and no one noticed (untill after it was discoved that she had been drugged) that she had been acting funny. Three months of work in the pasture later someone finally managed to grab her. They broke her to a saddle but she tried to kill whoever got on her to the point of hurting herself. She was a riding horse for a little less than a year and was retired to be a pasture compainion. I am not sure how common the practice is in your area but just beware. Good Luck!
