    but thier sponsors pay them more depending on which medal they win-if they win at all :)

    The US Olympic committee pays $25,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver, and $10,000 for bronze. During years in which the olympics are not held they are paid $6,000- $2,000 for placing in the top 8 at events such as the world championships or the Pan-American games.

    The US Olympic committee also pays for the health insurance and sometimes even pays for the tuition for the athletes.

    Many athletes also have sponsors.
