We are going to the Bahamas for 1 week ( without the children) and we are not sure how much cash or money we need and dont want to have too much or too little or get slammed with ATM fees onboard or having the ATM run out of money when we need it. Any ideas - Our trip is paid for and so are our excursions. - Thanks in Advance

  1. When you arrive at the port to check in you (each passenger) will receive a key card which will serve as your room key, charge card for anything you buy on ship (i.e.,drinks, souvenir) and its also your pass to get on and off ship in each port.   The ship will have you set up a charge account for all on-ship purchases including gift shops and tours.  So you will not need cash to buy gift and drinks on ship.  You either put your tab on a charge card at the end of the cruise or make arrangements to pay it in cash.

Unless you plan to buy jewelry in a port most things like "t"-shirts, caps, etc, will be $10 -$15 each.  So you may spend $50 if you buy some souvenirs,  If you are buying big stuff like jewelry you should probably use a credit card anyway.  Take money to gamble with on the ship's casino and  if there are casinos on the Bahamas island you visit.

I suggest a couple hundred cash each.  Here's a  secret to avoid ATM fees.  You have to plan ahead to do this but just go to the ship's casino (the casino is open only when the ship is not in port) and ask for a cash advance on your on-board credit.  You can usually get a couple hundred at least and there is no ATM fee or charge; they simply add that to your on-board tab.  Its as simple as that!!!  I do it ocassionally.

  2. I and my wife went to the Bahamas for a five day trip. The additional costs roughly equaled the cost of cruise but that did include the side trips. Take it easy on the trip and don't try to get every last dime's worth out of it. I think you will enjoy it better that way.

    Skip the T-shirts.

  3. just take the atm card, and the cruise will take that, and then all of your expenses will be taken from there i would say take about 200 in small bills such as tens fives and ones, because you will need them to tip and bargin when on the islands for good buys.

otherwise just how much you think you might spend on booze and pictures

i have spent only 200 for a week but also 700 so it greatly varies!

just remember no kids so bring extra money cuz this generally means more booze!

    have a blast!

  4. I usually spend about $100 per port.  We don't drink or gamble, so we spend very little on the ship.

  5. depends on who you are with Carnival, tips are charged to a sail and sign account with Carnival and they are $10 day per person, but you can link that to a credit card, bank card or pay a cash deposit,  you don't use cash on the ship at all.

the only things you pay for are:

    spa

    bars

    casino

    coffee shop

    and photos

  6. I went on a 4 day  trip to the Bahamas. If you use a credit card to pay for on board purchases. You don't really need much cash. We spent $140 in Nassau and $65 in Key West. All that was for souvenirs. We had to pay $45 back at the airport to get the car out of the parking garage. We took $1000 with us and came back with about $450. We didn't use a CC so we paid for the tips and bought souvenirs on the boat with cash. If we hadn't bought souvenirs we would have just spent alittle over $100 on the boat for tips and some drinks.
