More specifically, is there discrimination between British nationals and those from other countries?

  1. it all depends on how long you've been teaching adn if you have any TLR's. Also if you are in London or not.  You can expect around £20,627 as a starting salary as of Sept 08

take a look at this site -

    http://www.nasuwt.org.uk/shared_asp_file...

The pay will go up on M scale every Sept until your 7th year of teaching when you will have to apply for the threshold (at the end of your 6th year) after threshold it will be on the upper pay spine

I don't think it makes a differenc if you are a british national or not, as long as you have the correct qualifications

  2. The above answers are correct (apart from the one about Russia). However, as physics teachers are in very short supply, you will probably be able to go to a private school where behaviour standards are better, and as they are even more desperate for specialist subject teachers, they may pay more. Good luck!

  3. No discrimination.

Depends which part of the UK but around £22,000 to start with in Scotland, no doubt similar to England.

Head of department wouls get about £44,000

  4. Teachers of secondary schools in Russia, especially in small provincial towns, get payed at least 1.200 pounds a year and if they have 36 hours (lessons) a week and working experience more than 10 years their year's income exceeds 2.000 pounds. So they are to give private lessons after work tutoring at home. Isn't it a discrimination in comparing with other European countries wages? By the way minimum wage (MPOT in Russian) is going to be risen by the year 2009 twice and current 100 dollars of monthly payments are to reach that shameful level. Do you think prices have been frozen? No, of course. We see the act of a humiliation not school teachers only, but all non qualified labourers who are put at the same material level with pensioners, invalids, teachers and some other low-payed professions. If teachers won't have been tutoring they hardly could to make their ends meet!
