  1. According to Forbes magazine, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. made $20 million in 2004. Jeff Gordon made $19 million.

(For race car drivers overall, the highest paid was Michael Schumacher with a whopping $80 million in 2004.)

  2. It is all basically depending on who you are, your skills, and who you drive for. The drivers get most of their money from sponsors. For example, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was said to make 40 million dollars per year just from being on the front of Coca-Cola machines. The same goes for Jeff Gordon, who is on the front of many Pepsi machines. So, truthfully, the most popular drivers actually make more off of their sponsors than they do from their winnings.

  3. Most are paid a base salery and a percentage of the prize money per race, and there are likely bonuses. If it's a popular driver (Jr, ect), they can make as much or more from souvenirs and endorsements as they do racing.

I'd be willing to bet that Dale Sr. Is still bringing in more money than a bunch of current drivers. You know why, because he had true fans that will never forget.

    Bandwagons are for B!tches.

  4. 2 to 50 million dollars depending on who the driver is.

  5. When you see the money awarded at the end of the race, some is from base salary, but most comes from incentives within the organization, past champions bonus, and even sponsorship deals.

  6. Enough to buy a few dirt tracks.
