I'm traveling to Peru this summer and need antimalaria pills. How much do they cost? Also, how much is the vaccination for hep A, hep B, yellow fever, typhoid, and rabies? These are all recommended by the CDC.

  1. My health department would not give me malaria pills.  I had to go see a doctor.

In my experience...(no medical insurance)I had to pay $120 doctor visit and then my perscription cost me about $50.00 at Wal-Mart.  It also depends on how long you are going to stay down there.  Ex: the longer you stay, the more pills you will need.

I did not have to get the rest so I'm useless there...

    Good luck and stay safe!

  2. They're cheaper at the county health dept.

  3. I lived in Peru for 6 months and throught the winter time which was very humid. Basicly, I was sick as a dog a whole lot. Everything is so cheap down there. I swear a doctor visit with a couple of shots and etc...I didnt spend more than like 30bucks...it was great. I also would like to add that I always ended up out and about. A shot cost like $5.00, its really cheap...medicen, some are like 8-20, I didnt spend anymore on medicen. Well good luck and hope that this was helpful.

You know whats not cheap...condomes...Im not trying to be like nasty or funny Im being seriouse...just incase if you where wondering....ok

    have a good time,

    chao

  4. Well I am planning a trip to Peru in November, I was told by my Health Provider which is Kaiser Permente that all the shots are free as long as you have health insurance.

  5. Call your local health department.  They should offer them to you pretty cheap.  Some states even have a sliding scale, so you pay depending on how much you have.

  6. Talk to your doctor. Also, county health departments often give these vaccinations at lower prices.
