Hey im going to visit a friend in dagenham in may && because i live in wakefield near leeds i dont really understand the tube tickets and how to get them.

Im travelling from wakefield to london kings cross and then via the underground to dagenham heathway in zone 5. Do i need to book these tickets in advance or can i simply get my train to kings cross and pay for a kids ticket to dagenham?

I remember going to wembley from bletchley one day and my dad bought a ticket for me that was £2 on the day and it allowed us to catch any train at any time on any line. Is it possible to buy one of these tickets when i get to Kings Cross && will it be cheap?

thankyou x

  1. This rail planner can help you work out your journey, but it did not have the price of the tickets:

    http://www.transportdirect.info/Transpor...

This site has the prices but not the info on the times:

    http://www.londontoolkit.com/briefing/un...

If you buy tickets for just the ride it is 4 pound per single ride, a day pass peak time is 13.80, so more expensive, but if you start your underground travel after 9:30 you can get an off-peak card for 7 pound, so that is cheaper.

There are ticket windows at some of the bigger underground stations and easy to use ticket machines at all stations, but I am not sure the machines can also sell the day card.

If you are a 'child' (under 15 or 17) different prices may apply, so better ask at the ticket office or station staff in that case.

But buying beforehand is not needed.

  2. First, you have no need to buy Underground tickets in advance, you buy them on the day of travel.. When you get to King's Cross you will need a one day travelcard for Zones 1-5. This will give you unlimited travel on the Underground for that day within those zones. I'm sorry, but I don't know what the fare is. Check www.tfl.gov.uk, the Transport for London website
