My husband got a job offer and they asked him how much he wanted. He said he wants to "bring home" $100,000 meaning after withholdings. We live in Texas. How much do we ask for?

  1. If he can't figure that out, he's not worth $100,000.

  2. as much as you feel you deserve...is he hard working? dnt hold back if you feel you deserve it! but dnt be outrageous

  3. It's pretty odd to ask for a certain amount after taxes.  The company wants his work, and it has a certain value.  They don't care how much he takes home, only how much comes out of their account.

He probably needs somewhere in the $140 k region to take home $100, but you'd need to use an online calculator to figure out exactly how much.

It's up to them whether the job is worth that much.

  4. You will need something in the area of $128,500 gross to have a take home of $100,000 after withholding.  There would be some variation depending on the frequency of his pay periods.  That also assumes that there are no deductions other than Federal income tax and SS/Medicare.

  5. You say nothing about the job offered, his experience, etc.  Pay rates vary with job, experience, location (where in Texas for example).  Bringing home $100,000 means he will have to make at least $140,000 a year gross, putting him in the upper tax brackets and also in a job in which there is high demand.

  6. $115,000

  7. what was his income before this offer?.....what are you offering to the company as an employee?...well, this is just a couple of questions you must ask yourself....oohhh i saw you're add to the question....well this is a good salary request, is he going to work in any refinery or something like that?.....yes go for it.....hey don't be rude....

  8. What you have to remember is the tax rate is on his actually salary, not his take home. Seem that the people above left that out.

You will probably end up hitting AMT tax, so that will mean that you will pay about 28% (you will be on the low end, so you will probably only pay 28%) federal on all of your money. You will also have to pay SSI and medicare. If Obama wins, you might pay the SS on the entire amount, so I would factor that in. You will also lose out on a lot of deductions. I would say $155K-$160K

if you pay 28%+6.2%+1.4%, then you pay around 35.6%. If you make $155K, 35.6% of that is about $55K, leaving you around $100K

Congrats, you are now rich. Get ready to pay it all in taxes.
