  1. It needs to be assessed by a community welfare officer and you will need to pass a means and habitual residence test.

    From the Citizens Information website:

    Rates

The amount of Rent Supplement will be calculated by the HSE's Community Welfare Officer (CWO) and will generally ensure that your income, after paying rent, does not fall below a minimum level. This level is the Supplementary Welfare Allowance minus €13. This means you must pay at least €13 towards your rent.

Rent Supplement is paid weekly or monthly by cheque, Electronic Fund Transfer or post draft, usually in arrears.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) sets a maximum rent level for each county. The maximum rent level is set by the Department of Social and Family Affairs. The HSE may set lower rates within these limits. If your actual rent is higher than the local maximum, you may be refused Rent Supplement entirely.
