  1. $5-$10.  Depending on if they had to make the reverse commute.

I figure, buy at least a gallon for the trip, a gallon for the return, and another for the wear and tear, which could easily put you in the $10 range these days.

If you're just riding along on a trip they're already making, split the gas cost for the trip with them.

I always tend to go larger rather than smaller as a thanks for them not making me drive.

  2. I ran around with a lot of friends who didn't have money for a Coke let alone gasoline but I would give them a Five today or expect it from them.  You couldn't get a taxi for that nowadays.

  3. I'd probably offer a person ten dollars if they drove me somewhere 10 minutes away. It's not only the trip there, they have to make the 10 minute trip back from wherever they took you, so I'd say ten bucks. I'm sure they'd understand if you only gave them five, though.

  4. Considering the fact that 10 minutes is only 5 miles or so in the city traffic, I am shocked that anyone would ask for gas money for that short a trip. Most people I know would never expect to be paid for that.

A gallon of gas is around 3.00. Most cars get over 15 miles to the gallon.
