  1. I pay as little as I can to get what I can use.  Used skiis, race slaloms, with bindings, 5 years old in good condition, $150,  New boots $400, custom fitting of boots, $250.  Poles, $10-$100, depending on what they are for.  Helmet $25, goggles $40-150, ski pants $40-$80. Ski parka $80.  It can add up in a hurry if I need to replace every thing in one season.  This year it was the used skiis, coming up is the boots, either new liners or a whole package,  we'll see what happens.  Maybe a new pair of skiis, from last years models on sale.

  2. depends i put my stuff together through sales auctions and what not- $50 gloves $50 jacket $20 mask  $250 ski $20 poles $80 boots  $ 30 goggles then thermals and ski pants($80-100) and stuff like that.

  3. I actually got really good deals on all my stuff!

Skis, Boots and Polls- all for 100 dollars.  They are 2002 k2 t-nine sky skis, Lange boots and some random polls.

Pants-  Two pair, one I got for 50.00 half off at the skiing store in the summer.  Another I got for 20 dollars clearenced in the summer at marshalls.  The 20 dollar pair is actually awesome.  I love it.

    Jacket- 40.00 columbia.  At marshalls.

    Helmet- Giro G9 from REI.com for 50.00

Goggles- Scott Heli OTG from REI.com for 40.00

Socks 1pair for 10.00 from skiing shop one pair 10.00 from rei.com.

Gloves from tjmaxx for about 15 dollars.  I don't really like the gloves I need some new ones.

Underwear- Hot chilli's I got half off at summitonline.com

I got a waxing iron/wax/all that stuff for Christmas.

  4. Big price range for different levels of equipment.

    Skis:  $300-$1200

    Bindings:  $150-$400

    Boots:  $300-$900

    Poles:$30-$200

    Clothes:  $100-$1000

    Rental Package:  $30-$75

  5. I picked my last set of planks up for $250...new, but on clearance at a pre-season ski swap. I dropped $140 for my bindings....new, and that included the mounting. I just bought slightly used (once) boots. Last year's model, on eBay, for $125.

Everything else I have was free or really cheap courtesy of pro-deals, demos, employee sales, or just ridiculous sales.

    Here's some examples:

A few years ago I tore my $120 ski jacket at Killington while getting on the lift. They replaced the jacket with a $350 coat.

My poles were "presents" from the Black Diamond gear rep....no cost. I also picked up a $50 pair of poles at an end-of-season sale for $20.

Ski socks...I never pay more than 1/2 price thanks to my pro-deal from Smartwool.

Helmet...$20 on clearance from Sierra Trading Post.

If you say...."Great, good for you, but I don't work in the industry. I can't get good deals."....oh how wrong you are!

Deals are out there. You just have to look for them. Skis and clothing are marked up very high to reach MSRP. In fact, most MSRPs are intentionally high so the dealers can mark them down so you THINK you are getting a deal. Boots are marked up too, but not that much...maybe only 100%...not 200%-250% like skis. If you have an AMEX Black Card in your wallet, well...you can afford to pay MSRP. I prefer to spend my cash on good food and beer rather than gear and lift-tickets. I stumble on deals all of the time, but, I'm looking for them and I know what the mark-up is (or close to it). So, call it informed shopping. Independent stores will usually give you better deals than the big chains. I worked for a chain...I couldn't discount much...when I could...watch out! I went hog wild because I just wanted to get it out of my store. (We had parties on mark-down days.) So...get informed before you shop and look for the deals. You'll find them and you won't have to pay FOOL price for anything.

  6. I just picked up a bunch of equipment on the cheap from Sports Authority.  The price you pay all depends on when and where you are buying.  Sports stores like d**k's Sporting Goods and The Sports Authority are getting rid of all of there ski stuff to make room for warmer weather sports.  The clothes are still pricey, but to give you an idea of what I paid for everything $450 (that includes tax).  That was for ski, boots, and poles.  Hope this helps you out.
