  1. I pay too much.

I'm all for a flat tax.

  2. you're paying about 17-18%, less than I do and I don't mind paying.

As for the earned income credit, that helps a lot of families who are either in or near poverty.  25 years ago, I used the credit for my kids and i to make it.  We all need a hand now and again.

Now I do not mind paying to help others get a hand up.  I do mind paying for a senseless war, that is what costs so much.

  3. I agree with you. I also pay much to much.In addition to the factors that you mention we also pay for corruption and government waste.

  4. I made like $70,000 dollars and ended up paying like $1,200!!!  I think that is a joke, and don't know how the h**l the governmetn is supposed to run on that!  I am glad to pay for the services me and my family receive, such as schools, roads, public works and a military to defend my freedom.

Republicans are just trying to bankrupt every program they don't like - such as Social Security (which I sincerely hope to get someday but never will at the rate of things.)

  5. I pay too much for the little I get.   If you disregard all that is wasted and misspent, I'm paying way less than my fair share as is every other American.   We can spend it now and make our kids pay it back with interest at some other date.

  6. Too much!

  7. I pay in about 10% of my salary.  I don't think that it is to much.  What I don't agree with is how the money is spent.

  8. 'Bout 25%  (Don't forget, social security is 13% but they only show 6.5% on your paycheck - the other 6.5% still comes out of your compensation)

Fair share?  No way.  I pay state and local taxes that fund 90%+ of the schools, all of the law enforcement, fire protection, and non-interstate roads.

The federal government is a joke.  90% of their spending has no constitutional foundation.  Their policies have devalued the dollar for decades, reduced our standing in the world 'til we're just the butt of political jokes, and fostered the rise of multinational monopolies that can only exist with the aid of tax payer funding and anti-competitive laws.

How is it that my state and city can pay for all these essential services with a 7% sales tax and a small property tax (like 1.5%) and yet our federal government needs 20-40% of every single person's income ???  I'll tell you why, there's a lot of rich companies that need to be paid off - and that's the only thing the federal government is good for.

  9. I pay way too much, and can't stand that the federal government uses it overseas. I mean, it's our taxes, spend it on our people!

  10. Income tax is wrong and unconstitutional........and technically its not even legal.

  11. 42%. Federal + State+ City ...An ungodly sum of money.

Of course, there is the good old AMT that is going to drive the middle class into a bottomless hole.

If you don't know about the AMT and how it works and you have a reasonably well-paying job, you must find out about this.

  12. I made 50 grand.

I paid about 9 grand in Federal Income Tax... (not including SS, Medicare, etc)

    That is WAY too much!

  13. About 25% of my paycheck.

I don't mind the tax - what I mind is where it goes.
